ooVoo is hoping it's new video calling app will set its new mobile apps apart from the crowd.

ooVoo offers the ability to video chat face to face with family and friends, anytime and anywhere. With ooVoo you can have free video chats one on one, or have a group video chat with up to 6 people at once!

Video calling is set to explode in 2011 and ooVoo - one of the big players on the desktop space - doesn’t want to be left out: they’ve just released their Android app, an iPhone 4 app is reported to be coming soon.

With the launch of new Android and desktop apps, ooVoo will let users communicate with up to six different video chat partners, even over today’s 3G wireless networks.

The company has been offering video chat for a while, with business-friendly features such as screen sharing and support for multiple participants. Now ooVoo is bringing those same features to mobile, along with support for mobile-to-desktop video calls.

The Android app works over 3G or WiFi, and relies on remote servers to do some of the video processing, which helps provide decent quality. If your phone has two cameras, you can press a button to flip between the front and rear-facing cameras.

The company’s basic desktop software for 2-way chat is available for free, while users who want collaboration features and up support for up to 6 participants can subscribe to a monthly plan or pay for each use.

While two-way video chat is free, the group video capabilities will cost anywhere from $9.95 to $39.95 depending on what level of service and features you request.

Apple released its FaceTime application earlier this year, but startups like Qik and Tango have also been quick to make video chat available on Android phones. And rumor has it that Skype is hiring mobile developers - possibly to port its video chat capabilities to iOS and Android phones.
