Fring Adds Video Chat Between iPhone 4 and AndroidBy ChatRooms.NET - 2010-07-09
FaceTime on the Apple iPhone 4 is great however it comes with some serious restrictions as it's only available on the iPhone 4 and only works over Wi-Fi networks. Kudos to Fring, who have now enabled cross-platform video chatting that allow you to conduct two-way video conversations between mobile devices with forward looking cameras. That means you can now enjoy video chat between the iPhone 4 and an EVO 4G. In addition you can now also use a Nokia phone with a forward looking camera. FaceTime on the iPhone 4 utilizes more bandwidth for sound so you actually sound better on a FaceTime call. The service does work over 3G, but it's not executed as well as FaceTime and the image quality over 3G is more pixelated and sound quality is bad. Sometimes the option for video calls doesn't appear when you look up a friend. And for some reason, you can only conduct calls on the Evo in landscape mode while the iPhone 4 works only in portrait. Hopefully, Fring can improve the service and make it feel more polished as this is a nice update because it means that now mobile video chat can grow beyond one platform. |
