Beaumont Hospitals H1N1 Live Web Chat for Flu Information Nov 18By Chatrooms.NET - 2009-11-13 Beaumont Hospitals is hosting a live Web chat on H1N1 flu on Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 2 - 3 p.m. Jedd Roe, M.D. chief of Emergency Medicine at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, will be available to respond to questions through an online chat room on Beaumont's Web site. The call center and Web chat are in response to an increase in the number of reported influenza-like illnesses in Michigan and across the nation. The Michigan Department of Community Health reported in late October that 2009 year-to-date flu cases had already exceeded statewide annual flu totals for 2007 and 2008. Jeffrey Band, M.D., Beaumont's corporate chairman of epidemiology, said the spike in reported flu cases is linked to H1N1, the new influenza virus that was first detected in the United States this spring. "The call center and Web chat will provide information to those who suspect that they or someone they care for have the flu," says Dr. Roe. "We'll help them determine when home treatment is appropriate and when they should see a physician or come into the Emergency Center for assessment and treatment."
