Using Facebook Chat Within iChat

Instuctions for using the FaceBook chat feature from within iChat to talk with friends.

Now you can use both iChat and Facebook.

iChat (formerly iChat AV) is an instant messaging (IM) software application by Apple Inc. for their Mac OS X operating system. iChat has audio, video and screen-sharing capabilities as well as text messaging. iChat makes it easy to stay in touch with your friends and family using either text or video, or both, whether they are on using a Mac or a PC.

Here is how to use Facebook chat from within iChat:

* In iChat, open Preferences, and then go to the Accounts tab. Click the plus sign to add a new account.

* Select Jabber Account from the Account Type drop-down menu.

* Enter your_username@chat.facebook.com in the Account Name field, and then enter your Facebook password in the Password field. Be sure to replace your username with your Facebook username.

* Next Click on the triangle next to "Server Options" to show the settings. Enter chat.facebook.com in the Server field, and "5222" in the Port field. Be sure you do not check the "Use SSL" box.

* Next simply Click "Done".

Now you should be able to chat with both your Facebook friends and your iChat buddies from within iChat!
