Group Video Chat with Friends on FacebookBy Groupchat.tv - 2011-08-21 A Facebook application that introduces group video chats with up to 50 friends on Facebook. Groupchat.tv is a new Facebook application that enables Facebook users to participate in group video chats with up to 50 friends at the same time. The application was created in just 2 days, during the HAPI hackathon weekend in San Francisco, by the same people who run e-commerce site Tinypay.me. "We were one of the sponsors of the event, but we always like to join the other developers to create entirely new concepts," says Melvin Tercan, CEO of Tinypay.me. It's an impressive feat, especially considering Facebook still doesn't support group video calling one month after introducing 1-to-1 video calling, and Google Hangouts only supports group video chats with 10 friends at the same time. "Talking with 50 people isn't something I would recommend, but it is possible," says Melvin. Groupchat.tv is a simple application that's easy to use. After logging in with a Facebook account it creates a unique link that can be shared on Facebook, e-mail and Twitter to invite friends to join the video conversation. The application went viral within the first day by simply inviting close friends to try it out - leading eventually to more than 1,000 users during the first 24 hours. "The great thing about Facebook is that the network effect creates exponential growth. It also helps that we encourage you to invite your friends to join the experience." When asked about the future of Groupchat.tv, Melvin replies: "I'm sure that Facebook is working on group video chat as well. But for now, I just wait and see if this takes off before they introduce it. We're still busy working on Tinypay.me and we like to work on Groupchat.tv just for fun."
