New Charges for Sex Offender after Naughty Online Chat

Police in Norton Shores have arrested a man for propositioning what he thought was an underage girl for sex online.

The 26-year-old Norton Shores man already on the sex-offender registry.

An officer from Calhoun County posed as a 14-year-old girl in a chat room and says the suspect tried to proposition him.

A cybercrimes investigator in the Emmett Department of Public Safety was posing as a juvenile in an online chat room when the man came forward and solicited sex, Lt. Tony Geigle said. The man exposed himself online during the interaction, Geigle said.

That officer then called police in Norton Shores who went to the suspect's home and arrested him. Police seized a computer and other electronic equipment during a search of the man’s home.

The man, about 25 years old, was being held in Muskegon County on suspicion of solicitation of a minor for immoral purposes. His name was not released before his arraignment on the charge.
